Kyaik Khauk Pagoda is a popular impressive tourist destination and also pilgrimage site for Buddhists. It is situated on a small hill in the South East corner of Thanlyin Township, in southern Yangon Region, Myanmar.
About Kyaik Khauk Pagoda
This pagoda has been built over 2,000 years ago by King Sulathrima of Thaton and also enlarged and renovated many times. The base of this pagoda is surrounded by many small golden stupas. And it is decorated with fine wood carvings and golden designs topped with a multi tiered roof called Pyatthat.

Kyaik Khauk Pagoda Festival is known as one of the famous pagoda festivals around Yangon. It is taken place in February of each year. There are many activities for the travelers to join in this festival as stage show in the evening with overnight performances and outdoor movies. The guests can take part in and enjoy some dances, songs and short and long plays, or even some traditional Burmese folk dancing and comedians.

Besides, going to Kyaik Khauk Pagoda, the tourists can visit some old colonial buildings dating back to the time when the city was under control of the British. How to Get to Kyaik Khauk Pagoda
Kyaik Khauk Pagoda is in Thanlyin which is located across the river from Yangon, hence, the guests can take a taxi from the downtown to Thanlyin and they should agree on the price with the drivers before setting off.
For the local people here, they always get to the pagoda by ox-carts.
Because this pagoda sits on a small hill, therefore, the travelers have to walk to the top to get there. However, there is an elevator available for those who need it but ascending the steps to the pagoda adds to the guests’ trip experience.
